In geography this week we have been looking at scale on maps, so it was a nice opportunity for us to use scale drawing for ourselves when we tackled our latest technology design project on boxes.
The children were asked to design a box for a purpose, e.g to hold a toy, to present a cake, etc. M decided to design and make a bed for his favourite soft toy. He used scale drawing (1:4 cm) and showed the box as a net:
As you can see, he measured Puppy carefully to ensure that the finished bed would be a comfortable size, allowing for the depth of cushions and blankets required!
M used pegs and string to hold the joints together whilst the glue dried:
M was inspired to sew Puppy a pillow (only the best for Puppy!)
And finally, Puppy tested the box! We are waiting for her evaluation, but she’s having a bit of a snooze at the moment!
