Since returning to our studies after the Christmas break, we have been experimenting with the use of Nintendo DS Lites in our learning activities. We spend 20 minutes at the beginning of the morning session and 20 minutes at the beginning of the afternoon with our DS machines. I work on More Brain Training (yes, I do need it and no, I won’t tell you how old my brain is ! Suffice to say, I am pleased to have reduced it by 22 years since I started!) , M and A work on Big Brain Academy and Maths Training.
As an educator, I enjoy the way that the games help us to improve basic literacy and maths skills in a fun way, whilst allowing us to chart our own progress and beat our own personal best. This is individual target setting and continuous assessment in action. And the kids and I love it!
Our mental maths skills are really improving and the DS sessions really “wake up” our brains for the learning day ahead.
I must go … I really want to knock a few more years off my score!!
